A magical, fairly-like Christmas in the Grand place
The Electrabel Nights, part of the Winter Fun event that takes place in Brussels every year during December was given an especially festive tone this year. Some 20 transparent and silver giant Christmas bubbles (3m in diameter) were installed in the Grand Place and were part of the magical Christmas scene.
Beautiful Christmas trees inside some of the giant baubles were decorated with hundreds of lights that miraculously lit up the Grand Place in the evenings. In addition, the was a lightshow every night that took visitors, together with Father Christmas, on a trip through Europe. 7 countries were visited with ‘spotlights’ on the highlight of each country. Thousands of visitors got to see classic Italian scenes, alternating with pictures of Paris nightlife.
Then it was the turn of German composers who were brought colourfully into view, alternating with a Spanish Don Quixote. The exquisite show was acknowledged by warm applause from Belgian visitors AND numerous tourists during a cold month of December.
